Me time

My waters broke early in the morning. I packed some snack, magazines, took the essentials and my husband and my daughter drove me to hospital - we were excited a little brother was coming!

When the formalities were done, I was settled on a hospital bed in a birthing room with pain relief and a few hours of labour ahead. I relaxed, took my magazine to read and happily shared with midwife my excitement: “me time!”.

Of course, it sounds funny to consider labour a relaxing time for myself, but anyone who has spent time with a toddler, will know how hard it is to find a moment of “me time” when a little action kid is nearby full of fantasies and ideas.

Now a mother of two little kids, spending full time with them at home at the moment, I would like to share with you a couple of ways to find “me time” moments:

  1. I like to do a wellness walk. It’s a walk by myself with no kids. I wake up a little earlier, leave my sleeping family at home, and go for a 30 minute walk listening to music. It feels so refreshing and liberating. I deliberately do not listen to podcasts because I want to give my mind free time to wonder and relax too. I got this idea from a post-natal recovery programme that I am doing (watch out for another post on that) and I absolutely love it.

  2. A combination of a skincare mask and a book (or magazine) is my other way to relax. I catch a moment before bed when kids are asleep. I do a skincare mask that needs to be on my face for 10 or even 20 minutes and while the mask is doing wonders to my skin, I enjoy quiet time reading an article in a magazine or a chapter in a book. It’s only 20 minutes of time but makes a big difference to how I feel and to my skin as well!

What are you favourite ways to relax and spend “me time”?
