Gadgets For Christmas

Christmas is fast approaching and I, like many others, have spent time and money on finding and buying lights, decorations, advent calendars, and gifts to make it as festive as possible. In all the years this is the year when many of us feel like treating ourselves and yet the options for a treat are limited because of social restrictions.

Gadgets are great gifts for our loved ones but also for ourselves. I am sure Santa has many of them in stock in preparation to read our letters to him this year. And so I would like to share with you my favourite gadgets, some of which came from Santa in previous years.

My number one has to be the Nespresso coffee machine. For a long time, I thought I don’t actually want a coffee machine at home because I love a walk to a nice coffee shop, a ritual of buying coffee, maybe chatting to a barrister and walking back with a coffee in my hand, or, even better, enjoying the atmosphere of a small cafe and having my coffee in. Eventually, I gave in and asked Santa for a coffee machine so I can have lazy mornings with coffee on weekends. And then came lockdown and working from home, and my coffee machine has become absolutely essential and works as hard as never before. And I am sooo in love with it. I am looking to buy a Nespresso advent calendar this year. I will love to try a new coffee taste every day noting my favourites to reorder.

My number two is Fitbit. I am a data-driven person. I love looking at graphs and numbers and Fitbit gives me just that. In the morning I check my sleep and compare what Fitbit tells me with how I feel. One could argue that just listening to how I feel could be enough and would be right. But it’s fun to see in more detail the sleep pattern and also remember how were the nights before. With four months old baby in my hands things can get a bit blurry over several sleepless nights and Fitbit reminds me to prioritise sleep. I use it also to track my exercise, my walks, my weight, and for a bit of competition with people I know. I’ve had my Fitbit for three years and it’s going strong and very much loved. Oh, and there are many fashionable straps and colours available too.

My next one is Bluetooth headphones. It makes such a big difference to not have to be connected by wire to my phone, it feels like freedom! I bought the Jabra Move first and listened to many podcasts in it while walking my baby daughter in the pram. I also used it for fitness, and listening to music really helped me to push myself in the gym and on a run track.

Last year Santa brought me AirPods and I love them too. They are of course small and cool and easily fit in both formal and informal outfits. But the coolest feature for me is that if I take one out of my ear, the iPhone pauses playing and waits for me to put it back. It also resumes playing by itself. How amazing is that?!

The last gadget I want to mention is the Bluetooth shower speaker. It makes shower time feel so luxurious. I also sometimes take it with me to other rooms in my home. The quality of music is pretty good and it’s a great travel companion too. (For the time when we travel again!)

Here is the list with links. Happy shopping!
