Our Favourite Bedtime Stories

Who doesn’t love a little scary bear story before bed?! Well, I thought, not sure it helps with a good sleep! But it turned out the bear story was just perfect for my then one and a half years old daughter. We found the book in the library and she loved loved loved it so much that we brought it on holidays, read it every day, and still in weeks, when the time came to return it, we were not ready to stop reading the story. So I had to buy it!

I then bought the two other books in the set. They stayed firmly favourite for months and years to come. My daughter, now three and a half years old, knows the stories by heart and “reads” the books by herself looking at the pictures and remembering the stories. She still loves them.

The books are about a little boy who has a ted and a big bear who it turns out has a ted too. The boy and the bear stumble across each other in the forest and scare each other but then eventually become friends. The books have large pictures and just the right amount of words for little listeners. There are emotions and humor that captivated my daughter. I can’t wait to read the stories to my baby boy once he is a bit older.

The second set of books is about a little dog called Plum. I bought the first book in a book shop on the deal three for two. I browsed the shelves and thought it looked nice. We grew to love the story as a whole family. It’s simple but emotional and captivating. Little dog Plum has becomes almost like our family dog. The drawings in the books are super cute. We read the story over and over again from when my daughter was about two. It’s still going strong.

The adventures of Plummy are so easy to relate to. Even though we do not have a dog, every time we go to a park we can observe things described in the books. After loving the book “Love is my favourite thing” for a couple of years I came to realise that there are more books about Plumdog. Apparently Plum is a real dog of the author and she created many books about the dog for children. The stories about the dog teach about love, friendship, and compassion. They are written in a kind and funny manner and my husband and I enjoy reading them almost as much as my daughter. We role-play the stories. We name dogs we see in the park by the names from the stories and give them characters for fun. We might have a dog one day. And we might even call her Plum!
