Easy Christmas Craft for Toddlers, Kids and Adults

I have to admit I enjoyed this craft as much as my kids! It was so easy and so fun! My company was my 17 months old boy and my 4 years old girl. I have ordered in advance on Amazon a set of wooden Christmas tree decorations and we painted away altogether! The results are absolutely wonderful and a delight to look at on our Christmas tree!

OK, things weren’t as rosy as one may imagine. While I and my daughter could spend a long time painting and having fun, my son was done in about 10 minutes! And while he was painting he painted my hoodie, tried his best to reach the pains of his big sister, and nearly threw all the paint on the floor. He enjoyed it a lot though and he of course was doing it all with best intentions.

Luckily I could then hand him to my husband and continue with my daughter!

What we managed with my son was: he happily painted with a brush over paper and wood. As I was doing it with him we managed a pretty blend of colours together. I then let him have complete artistic freedom painting on the paper. After the Christmas tree dried a bit we did baubles with my son’s finger. This was fun for him and me! I then finished some of the trees off with snow on them.

While I was trying to follow conventions and use light and dark greens for the trees my daughter did not feel bound by anything. Her Christmas trees were purple and pink and brown and red. The star on top saw many colours including black. And black baubles were there too to decorate. While I was a little apprehensive observing it, I actually liked the results in the end!

The ideas we used:

  • Painting star in a separate colour

  • Mixing colours for the Christmas tree

  • Using fingers for baubles - even my daughter enjoyed it!

  • Drawing garlands on the tree

  • Drawing snow in white or blue

We tried two types of paint, and the Crayola Neon paint worked the best. It gave a nice shine to the decoration, perfect for the Christmas tree!

These are the decorations I ordered, but there are plenty of options on Amazon.

Our decorations are now flying to the different parts of the world to bring a piece of us to our families and friends. It’s nice to be able to send a token while traveling and being present in person is still difficult. I am looking forward to hearing their reactions when they receive them!
