What’s in Mom’s Bag and Why is It So Big

I normally have one go-to bag that I take with me everywhere. It’s full of essentials! I add some things to carry depending on the occasion, but the majority of things stay there to be always with me. It’s been this way a long time, but ever since I am a Mom, it’s even more important to have essentials with me. As we know, while adults can get away without many things, small kids need to be taken care of here and now. So let’s have fun and see what’s in my bag. Perhaps you’ll note some useful things to carry as well. Or maybe just laugh at how many things I consider essentials!

A word about the bag itself. It’s a Valentino backpack. Superb quality, I love all the pockets and sections, perfect size and still fashionable. A backpack is a must when you want to be able to catch a running away toddler or help the toddler climb up or down on a playground/tree stump/any other exciting danger!

So what’s inside?

  1. Tissues, lots and lots of tissues since kids tend to get messy or cry or have running nose or all of that at once! Check out the Paw Patrol ones! They are my daughter’s favourite!

  2. Hay Max balm to prevent hay fever. Since it’s summer and June, exactly the time when my Hay Fever comes, the balm is in my bag. A friend of mine recommended it to me and I found it working with both myself and my daughter having much fewer symptoms. It works best with short walks and not able to completely prevent it of course. But it’s also completely natural which I love and which makes it safe to use on my little daughter too.

  3. Membership cards. I simply don’t want to drive to an RHS garden one day and realise I forgot my membership card. It’s much easier to always have them with me, so they are in the bag! Check out my post on the two memberships I bought straight back after lockdown for days out with kids.

  4. Hairbrush, lip gloss, and mirror. While running with kids, after kids, and trying to deal with myriad “why” questions, and requests on a walk with kids, I simply don’t remember to use them. But I still don’t feel comfortable leaving home without my “beauty kit”!

  5. A selfie stick that is also a tripod. I may not remember to use my lipstick and hairbrush, but I do remember to take photos and record memories of our times together. These are precious and the kids grow so fast! I love to make sure I am in the memories at times too, so a selfie stick helps. It’s also fun!

  6. Sunglasses and umbrella. I am the kind of person who can be completely blinded by the sun! I love sunshine but my eyes cry for protection. And when I drive it’s simply unsafe as my eyes will just close to avoid the bright sun and I will end up driving blind! So if I have to choose sunglasses or an umbrella, it’s sunglasses for me. I also carry sunglasses for my daughter as she, like me, struggles with the bright sun. But if it’s raining nonstop I do swap them for an umbrella. And as we are at it, this is the umbrella of my dreams. I am so in love! It’s small and perfect for a handbag, sturdy, and does the job as it should! I love the print too!

  7. A pocket picnic blanket - this is a summer item. My daughter loves picnics and would have a picnic every day everywhere. And I do love to be able to relax and sit on the grass when I feel like it. It also helps to be free in choosing sun or shade when we want to sit down. The pocket size is fantastic!

  8. A portable mobile charger. My iPhone is fairly old but works brilliantly still. Just the battery dies once or twice a day. Having a portable charger solved the issue. I don’t have to remember to charge my phone before I go out, I know I can always do that on the go!

  9. Little sea horse toy. My daughter loves to have a little companion with her. She loves role play and having a toy can make any walk or trip so much nicer, especially when she gets tired or upset, but also just to enjoy playing on the go.

  10. One muslin square. This is to expect the unexpected. If I need to wipe some mess from the kids or use it as a blanket, it comes in handy.

  11. Bottle of water. Ok, it's often not in my bag, but in the pram basket. But if I didn’t have the pram with me it would have been in my bag! I love the size and feel of this small Chilly bottle.

  12. Snacks for kids: our favourites are rice cakes, raisings, and dry mango.

  13. Compactly foldable spare bag. This one is very handy for shopping or as an overflow for anything unexpected to carry.

  14. Home keys and car keys. Not sure why I have car keys with me even when we don’t drive. I guess it’s convenient to be able to take or put things in the car as we leave home.

  15. Essential medicine includes adrenaline pens for my daughter’s allergy, anti-histamines for myself ever since I had an allergic reaction to a bee sting, paracetamol, or other pain killers for headaches I often get, plaster, and spare pads

  16. Thanks to the pandemic, you’ll always find inside my bag antibacterial gel and a face mask for myself and my daughter

That is all from my modest Mommy bag. What’s in your bag? Share below what else you carry!
